President Donald Trump is intensifying pressure on ‘Squad’ Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar following a Department of Homeland Security raid on her DC home last week.
Trump said Thursday she should resign over allegations she used a false name when entering Congress.
“So it’s not looking good because she used a fake name to be sworn in,” Trump said in Iowa.
“I assume she must immediately have to resign from Congress.”
The president delivered the comments during a rally in Sioux City supporting Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.
He pointed supporters toward House Speaker Mike Johnson while asserting that Democrats had effectively surrendered Omar’s congressional seat.
“That the Democrat Party has just conceded her seat,” Trump said.
That was the president’s characterization, rather than an announcement from Omar, Democratic leaders or election officials.
Trump also repeated allegations involving Omar’s former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, and mocked her response during a television interview.
His remarks followed an October 21 federal filing identifying the congresswoman using an alternative name.
The document refers to “Congresswoman Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar” describing the subject of search warrant proceedings.
The naming language has become a focal point for Trump and others scrutinizing Omar’s background.
Omar’s office has disputed the claim that her public name is false.
“Ilhan Omar is her real name,” a spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
The court document itself is a government motion requesting additional time to respond to applications seeking sealed search warrant materials.
It concerns requests from fourteen press organizations, The New York Times Company and Judicial Watch.
Prosecutors sought a common response deadline after the warrant’s execution was complete, or alternatively a November 9 deadline.
They said supporting reasons were contained in a separate memorandum they sought permission to submit under seal.
The applicants opposed the requested extension, according to the government’s motion.
The filing bears the name of Jeanine Ferris Pirro, the United States attorney for the District of Columbia.
It does not explain the basis for identifying Omar by the Elmi name or establish a judicial finding of fraud.
Trump nevertheless argued that the disputed identity question should have immediate consequences for her congressional position.
He returned to that demand during a Friday campaign appearance in Fort Myers, Florida.
“Because Ilhan used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume that she must immediately resign from Congress.”
The repeated demand underscores the president’s decision to keep the investigation and Omar’s responses prominent in his campaign appearances.
He also referred again to her interview with Chris Hayes, where she rejected allegations involving her previous marriage.
Omar’s office has described her response as sarcastic and reiterated that she denies the alleged sibling relationship.
Her denial of that allegation stretches back to before her election to Congress.
MPR News reported in 2016 that a Hennepin County certificate showed Omar legally married Ahmed Elmi in 2009.
“Insinuations that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi is my brother are absurd and offensive,” she said in a statement that year.
The new political clash follows the October 12 federal search of her Washington residence.
Her lawyers have demanded the return of seized property and challenged the legal basis and execution of the search.
The Justice Department has rejected those procedural accusations, maintaining that investigators followed court orders and their legal obligations.
Omar has portrayed the investigation as political intimidation, while Trump has continued publicly pressing questions about her records and credibility.
Earlier this week, he also raised the possibility of imprisonment if immigration fraud were established.
The president’s resignation demand adds a congressional dimension to an inquiry already involving citizenship documents and family history.
